Distribution & Habitat:
Cycas revoluta is found in thickets on hillsides on the southern Japanese islands of Kyushu and Ryukyu, and also in some places on the Chinese mainland.

It usually grows naturally in altitudes between 100 and 500 metres.

Culture:
This is the most popular and widely cultivated of the cycads. It makes an excellent plant for landscaping and pot culture.

The Sago Palm is a very hardy, tolerating dry periods, and light frosts. It prefers a sunny, well drained position.

Description:
A low growing cycad usually single trunked although very old plants (several centuries old) have been known to have grown up to 2 metres tall. The Sago Palm has feather like leaves up to 90 cm long, while the leaflets being dark green and glossy, stiff and pointed and about 10 cm long.

The female inflorescence is feather like, later forming a tightly packed seed head. The male cone is pineapple shaped.

Climate Zones:
Temperate to tropical. Frost and drought tolerant.
