Description:
Ophiopogon planiscapus 'nigrescens', or Black Mondo Grass, is an evergreen perennial which makes a great groundcover or edge plant. It also can be used as an accent in a cacti garden.
The strap-like leaves will grow 35 cm high and are about 6 mm wide. New growth starts out green and then soon turns black. Plants spread by underground stolons with thick fleshy roots.
Climate Zones:
Black Mondo Grass grows well in most coastal areas Australia-wide and is worth a try even inland where conditions are more extreme.
