Licuala grandis
Ruffled Fan Leaf Palm

Licualagrandismatureleaf

Distribution & Habitat:
Licuala grandis originates from the Soloman Islands and Vanuatu. It grows there in the rainforests as an understorey palm.

Culture:
Licuala grandis likes moist soil and - when mature - is comfortable in full sun as long as the humidity is high. In the sub-tropics, where there are longer periods without rain this palm requires some shade and regular watering. It also makes a very attractive container plant.

Description:
Licuala grandis is a beautiful, single trunked palm. It impresses with pleated leaves forming an almost entire circle. The leaves are of an attractive glossy green.
The Ruffled Fan Leaf Palm offers more than just good looks - its mature height of about 2 to 2.5 metres makes it an ideal addition to the average-sized suburban garden.

Climate Zones:
Although there are Licuala grandis known to have survived temperatures of -1.5° C. it is advisable to plant this palm in regions only where temperatures do not fall below 3 degrees C.
