Distribution & Habitat:
This palm comes from the Seychelles Islands. It grows there in the deep rainforests from sea level up to elevations of about 300 meteres.
Culture:
This palm is a true water lover although it handles short spells without moisture quite well. However, inspite its love of water it does not like to be water logged and should be planted in well draining soil. Once established it is adaptable to full sun.
Description:
A very attractive solitary palm which grows to about 15m tall. Young plants have a spined trunk. In older plants these spines will fall off. Orange petioles and large entire leaves, with very deep indentations make this palm stand out.
Phoenicorphorium borsigianum is regarded as one to the world's most beautiful palms.
Climate Zones:
Phoenicophorium borsigianum does not tolerate temperatures lower than 8° C.
