Distribution & Habitat:
Carpentaria acuminata is native to the Northern Territory of Australia where it grows on creek and river banks in lowland rainforests. It is one of the most widely used palm in the north.
Culture:
In young Carpies the leaves are spaced evenly up the trunk, with the leaflets lying flat. As the palm matures, a crownshaft develops, the leaves arch and the pinnae rise to form a "V". In a community of mixed species Carpies will outgrow other palms, adding height to the garden fast.
Description:
The Carpentaria Palm is a tall, solitary palm with a green crownshaft and recurved dark green leaves. It is a fast grower and under good conditions can reach maturity in about 6 years. Its height could than be 10 to 12 meters.
Carpentarias can also be used indoors successfully.
Climate Zones:
Although, a tropical palm Carpentarias will take temperatures around freezing point and are therefore quite suitable for subtropical and warm temperate areas. They like full sun and require moderate watering.
