Distribution & Habitat:
The Bamboo Palm is indigenous to Belize, Yucatan in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. Here it grows in lowland monsoonal forests.
Culture:
As Chamaedorea seifrizii originates from lowland rainforests it prefers a moist, but well-draining soil. When established it takes full sun, but should be protected when young.
Description:
This decorative species with its graceful fronds grows to about 2.5 metres high. It has multiple trunks of up to 2 cm in diametre which resemble bamboo canes. I is an understorey palm which will tolerate a considerable amount of sun light when mature. It also makes an exceptional palm for indoors.
Climate Zones:
The Bamboo Palm is cold tolerant to below freezing point, down to minus 4° C., but in regions where such temperatures persist for longer periods of time the palm should be planted in a protected area.
