Dypsis baronii is a slender, clustering palm which is widely distributed in rainforests throughout Madagascar, especially on the east coast.
Culture:
Dypsis baronii is one of the most cold tolerant palms (down to minus 4 degrees C.) of the Madagascan palms. It prefers a lightly shaded, moist, but well draining position.
Description:
The Sugar Cane Palm is a very attractive medium sized, clumping palm growing to about 6 meters tall. Occasionally it will grow as a single trunked palm.
It deserves to be much more widely grown than it is, in view of its attractiveness, and cold tolerance.
Climate Zones:
Because of it cold tolerance Dypsis baronii can be grown in areas of tropical, sub-tropical and temperate climates.
