Pachypodium geayi

Distribution & Habitat:
Pachypodium geayi is a deciduous tree from Madagascar and can grow up to 4 metres tall.

Culture:
Pachypodium geayi grows in full sun or light shade. It requires excellent drainage and should be kept moist but not wet during the growing season. In winter it should not be watered at all.
If the plant needs handling the best way is to wrap several layers of newspaper around the spiky trunk.

Description:
Pachypodium geayi can easily be mistaken for Pachypodium lamerei but the trunk of P. geayi is a metallic grey and when grown in full sun the mid rib of the leaves becomes a handsome bright pink. The needle covered trunk is topped by thin grey-green leaves. The flowers of mature plants are white with a yellow throat and sweet scented.

Climate Zones:
Pachypodium geayi should be protected from frost.
