Distribution & Habitat:
Artocarpus heterophyllus is native to southwestern India, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sri Lanka and some other Asian countries.

Culture:
Although the Jackfruit is a tropical plant mature trees have survived temperatures around freezing point.
The Jackfruit Tree is handsome and stately and in right conditions grows to an enormous size. However, in temperate climates these trees will grow much smaller, about 10 metres.

Description:
The Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world, reaching 35 to 40 kilos in weight. Fruits grow out of the stems and can be up to 90 cm long. They can be cooked or steamed as vegetables or eaten as fruit when fully ripe. The seeds can be roasted.
The leaves are 30 cm in length, leathery, glossy, and deep green in color. Juvenile leaves are lobed.

Climate Zones:
Sub-tropical to tropical. However, in sheltered positions it will grow also in temperate zones.
